I’ll be you if you’ll be me is a project consisting of five short films made on a deserted island in the Baltic Sea. In these films Åsa Elzén and Markus Wetzel continuously change roles between director and actor and through this method develop narratives about a fictitious androgynous character. One of them directs the first scene (where the other acts accordingly) then they change roles and the other directs, deciding how the film will continue. The one that is currently acting wears a mask and becomes this somewhat odd, mostly silent figure, alone on her/his island, trying to come to terms with the surrounding alienating nature, loneliness, death and longing for love. The project aims to scrutinize heteronormativity and the conventions of heterosexual love.
